Whinlatter Forest - Lake District Walk
Tuesday 2nd September 2014
After yesterday's short trip up Binsey it was time to test out how well my knee would cope with some steeper Lake District fells. As it was a hot day a walk from the campsite, taking advantage of the shade in the nearby Whinlatter Forest, seemed a sensible option.
Start: Lanefoot Campsite (NY 2274 2465)
Route: Lanefoot Campsite - Thornthwaite - Comb Beck - Whinlatter Forest - Comb Bridge - Masmill Beck - Braithwaite - Lanefoot Campsite
Distance: 6 miles Ascent: 392 metres Time Taken: 3 hours 20 mins
Terrain: Easy paths
Weather: Hot and sunny
Pub Visited: Royal Oak, Braithwaite Ale Drunk: Jennings Cumberland
Skiddaw from the track behind the campsite.
Looking down the valley towards Latrigg and Lonscale Fell.
Crossing Comb Beck.
As we rejoin the track towards the visitors centre Grisedale Pike comes into view.
The view also extends along the valley towards Clough Head.
After crossing the road we follow the broad tracks through Hospital Plantation.
Heading down the road we stop to admire the view across Bassenthwaite Lake.
